Pearl and Dean no longer do game rentals, but we're keeping this review up as it was for posterity.
is a new Lovefilm affiliate launched in Spring 2006. Just as with Lovefilm they offer DVD-only rental packages and DVD/Game rental packages with the latter giving you the flexibility to rent games, DVDs or both as you wish but being more expensive than the DVD-only rental packages.
The range of titles and set-up mimic Lovefilm as you might expect. There is little to tell the two websites and their services apart. We, as always, recommend going with the original company Lovefilm rather than one of its many clones.
They currently only offer games for PS2 and PSP and also do UMD films for PSP.
Prices: Pearl and Dean is rather more expensive than most rental companies with price plans at £12.99 per month for one game/DVD at a time to £19.99 for three at a time. We can see little that justifies the additional cost relative to the other sites, so have marked them down on this basis.
The free trial length varies according to the package you sign up for - 2 weeks free for 1 game/DVD at a time and 3 weeks for the 2 game/DVD package at a time.
Also note if you have already had a free trial with Lovefilm or another of its affiliates you are unlikely to be eligible for a Pearl and Dean free trial.
