Games By Post appear to have gone out of business in late 2007; their review remains here unaltered for posterity's sake.
Games By Post have one of the funkiest-looking games rental sites, but it is more than just good looks. Games can be selected by console and there are nine categories to browse through encompassing everything from action/adventure to sports. However, on the negative side, the search engine is rather simple and the range of titles isn't quite as good as some of the other companies.
We like that Games By Post offer gift subscriptions - a perfect present for Christmas or birthdays. Gift subscription packages are for a 3 month, 6 month or 1 year subscription, and include a discount for signing up longer term (see below). They are also intending to sell off ex-rental games and accessories at good prices in their online shop (coming soon), and you do currently have the option of buying the game you are renting at a good price if you would like to keep it.
Unlike most companies, Games By Post also offer an option to add a minor to an account, blocking access to 18+ games (which may include a level of violence etc unacceptable for young children). They allow the minor to have a separate username and password which allows access only to allowed video games rentals and past queue, not financial information or barred games.
On the negative side, we have heard reports of less than helpful customer service and GamesbyPost do not offer manuals/instructions by email or download as many companies do, though they do recommend internet sites that have copies of most manuals.
Prices: Games By Post have an impressive 14-day free trial. Their price structure is industry standard; 1, 2 or 3 games at a time for £9.99, £14.99, and £19.99 respectively.
In addition, Games By Post do offer discounts for 3 month, 6 month and 1 year subscriptions (5 pounds off, 1 month free, and two months free respectively) and all of these three offers can be bought as a gift subscription.
